QUESTION & ANSWER

MES Implementation Readiness

The information need not be perfect at first, but the unknown items must be marked and validated. Operations, processes, production, quality, equipment and IT need to be co-involved, and not driven by the information sector alone.

Answer the question.

First, give conclusions that can be used for decision-making

MES readiness comes from five aspects: process, data, equipment, site and organization. Processes are selected first for representative products and production lines when they are not harmonized; master data required for the first phase are managed when code is confused; linkage validation is completed earlier when equipment agreements are unclear.

DECISION FACTORS

What conditions need to be identified before judgement is made?

The same question may have different answers under different business, data and project phases. It is suggested that the following conditions be checked and that the common findings on the web be incorporated into their own projects.

Representativeness of pilot products and production linesBOM, Availability of process, material and equipment codesValidation of equipment protocols, edge gateways and on-site networksIdentification of the person responsible for production, quality, equipment and IT
ACTION STEPS

Suggested order of advance

01

First, we'll be clear about the target and the border.

Select a pilot line of high operational value and controllable borders.

02

Validation Key Dependence

- Preparation of worksheets, crafts, reporters, quality and retrospective samples.

03

Development of assessable outcomes

Validation of critical equipment, ERP and WMS interfaces.

04

Make sure you decide the next step with the real results.

(d) Establishment of pilot, abnormal, retreat and extension programmes.

PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

How do you understand it in the actual business?

Example used to illustrate the method of judgement

The plant plans to go on-line with MES, but the equipment agreement, the process version, and the material code are not harmonized. Selecting a typical production line, using two product run-through sheets to the closed loop, can expose data and equipment problems at an early stage, before creating replicable standards.

COMMON RISKS

The easiest pit to step on.

Leave the data to the implementers to speculate.

The equipment was not connected until the system development was completed.

Only IT attends demand meetings, first contact with the live user on the line

ACCEPTANCE

How should we end up receiving and confirming?

The initiation of the review should result in pilot boundaries, processes and samples, master data, equipment and interface validation results, mutual liability, site conditions, risk lists and an enforceable test-production plan.

When preparing to communicate with suppliers or internal teams, it is recommended that current processes, representative samples, existing systems, planning time and budget levels be brought. First, the unknown items are clearly marked, and then the decision is made to use diagnostics, PoC, fixed-range projects or ongoing research and development, which is usually more reliable than a direct demand for a price and duration without borders.

Your project conditions are different from the examples above?

Operational objectives, existing systems, sample and planned time could be collated before consultants could make preliminary judgements in relation to actual boundaries.
